We recently got to stay at Aulani a Disney Resort and Spa and one of my favorites is all the extra classes they offer. We had done the animation class once or twice before but when we saw it on the daily Iwa (newsletter) we knew we had to sign up. I don't think there is an age limit. I would say if you have littles have an adult help them.
MMAD Tip: Make sure you head down to the Pau hana (finish work) room early to sign up for the classes and activities as they do fill up fast. They offer a wait list so that if people don't show up you still might have a chance.

If you've ever been to Disney California Adventure Park you may have gone to the Animation Building to draw one of many characters with the animators. The classes are offered ever 30 minutes or so. I would say this is similar to that experience as you get to draw.
Unlike the DCA one, this is an hour long class. In this class you learn how to draw a character and paint a character cell. This class is free and all materials are provided.

The cast member walks you step by step through the character. They advise to draw lightly until you figure out which lines you want as there are no erasers.
During this class we drew classic mickey. How did I do?

It is harder than it looks so I give the animators lots of props. In the past I drew Goofy and Sorcerer Mickey. It is neat that you can come back from year to year and still have a new experience.

After we finished sketching and shading it was on to the next portion. You get to choose from three different characters, Mickey, Minnie or Stitch. You can't go wrong with any of the three. Heads up, Stitch is a little hard.
FYI: My watch cover is from @imalittlesomething. ( https://imalittlesomething.com/ ) Her shop is AMAZING.
I chose to do classic mickey with a Hawaiian twist. I had painted Minnie and Stitch in the past so it was only fitting I finished off the trio. They give your table paint palates, brushes, and water bowls to share.
You paint on the back so that in the case you go a little over the line or its chunky, it will still look good on the other side.
It takes many of these cells to just make 1 second of film. They used to all do this by hand. That just blows my mind.

How did I do?
I painted flowers first and let it dry then I painted the red over it. I was going for the Mickey is on vacations with the Hawaiian board shorts.
If you are staying at Aulani make sure you check to see what classes are offered and check some of them out. I would highly recommend doing this one. Its an awesome souvenir to take home.
